Some one is selling TWO 1991 Buick’s Riettas.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And keep in mind that these cars are rare an special only 2 of 371!One of them is only 1 of 27!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Also I’m thinking about buying this little Honda. A 200cc for 300 bucks. It seems like a cool little bike. I’m still thinking “step up from a moped” is what I want so this could work.

My first bike was a ‘79 CM185t. Solid first bike. Very easy to learn on and can still cruise on the highway. $300 is NP in today’s market. You could throw some clubman bars on it and sell it to a hipster for $1k.

While neat, the part of me that has worked in the archival and rare books world for last 10 years has to point out that rare, special and valuable are three very different concepts that don’t necessarily have a lot to do with one another. Sure, they can be related, but they’re not by default.

And that isn’t what so many car show posters, and this ad fail to realize. Yeah a red on red 1991 Buick Rietta is rare. But does any one care? No

I had to look up what Clubman bars are. I’m not into that style. This would be a “invest as little as possible” zventrur for me. If I spend any money on it it’ll be for tires.

Definitely. The CM are very comfy to cruise on as is. The 6v electrical system can be a bit wonky, but they’re simple.

I’d say the Riettas(just realized I’ve been selling that wrong) are a decent price, if a red on red Reatta is something your into.

For a long time I liked the Reatta because I thought they were fancy Fieros. If that were the case, I’d go buy them lol.

The ad mentions that the electric start only works lie half the time, but I’d guess being a 200 the kickstart isn’t that hard.

I didn’t really even look at the Ri attas, to be honest. I got distracted by motorcycle. I want a cheap small motorcycle very badly lately.

Same, I got really excited the other day because a 73 Honda cb400 I’d been watching dropped from 700 bucks to 400. Turns out the seller went to start it and the timing chain snapped. Which would be fine if I wanted a project but I really don’t.

My experience on a moped taught me that you have to be 1000x more aware than you are in a car. Because the people in 5000lb boxes with wheels feel to safe to bother paint attention.

I actually bought a helmet last year thinking “if I buy a helmet I’ll have to buy a bike” id like a nice riding jacket as well.

Its rare f or overall production numbers not the co!or if the interior. Shit they probably sold Porsche 911 turbos in 91 than Buick riattas and riverias combined.

For $300 you can’t beat the fun of that little bike, but it’s not going to be any   faster than most scooters .

Probably because of the charging system running out of juice. Mine did the same. I completely deleted the electric start on my 450 and only use the kickstart. Much more satisfying.

You mean like a 125, or 250 cpscotter right? Not a 49cc? My only frame of referee in the 2 wheeled world is the Honda areo80 I had for 2 years. It was lots of fun, but was a bit nerve racking if I tried to ride on Any road with a speed limit over 25. It the main road in my town is 35mph so people want to go 45 , and it could technically do 40 , but it didn’t like too, and I don’t like blocking up trafffic behind me, even on a 4 lane.

Kinja'd!!! CRider > HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles
08/03/2019 at 01:27

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, it’s faster than a 50 but slower than a 250 or similar displacement modern scooter. Maybe a little faster than a 125 if it’s running well and tuned u p a bit . I t should do about 60 mph, but much faster than that will be pushing it.

It's a cool little bike, and will make a good start to your motorcycle collection.

In terms of rarity, I’ve never really bought into the whole “1 of 27 in the world” based on options and such. I know it’s a thing that a lot of purists care about, but I just can’t be bothered. If it’s a rare car, let it stand on those merits. Not on the “fake” merits of saying something like “My VW Golf was one of only sixteen sold in 1995 with green paint, tan interior with tan and black door cards , the optional winter tire package but not the engine block heater, a 6-disc changer in the back, a roadside flare kit, and three toothpicks in the glove box. ”

Yes, the Reatta is fairly rare by modern standards with just over 21,000 rolling off the assembly line. But rarity alone should not impart value (and in the case of Reattas, correctly has not).

As for the motorcycle, here’s my advice: B uy it if $300 is effectively throw away money. Buy a good shop manual. Tear the thing down completely, clean everything up, then put it back together and enjoy riding it. It’s not going to be a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination (unless it would be your first bike, in which case 45 mph feels way faster at first). Doing a full rebuild on a bike is much easier than on a car. It’s much simpler to do by yourself, and you need far less space to do it. Once you’re done, you can take pride in having something that you were able to totally restore by yourself. And if you screw it all up...well at least you’d only be out $300. Maybe less if you are able to part out some of the things you didn’t screw up.

I think there’s a guy on here with a couple Mazda’s who would really like those Reattas.

Also, how is that a Wisconsin thing? I thought rust took away cars more quickly up there.

Because I’d be half of the Reattas that sold in 1991 were in the Midwest. It’s harder to find anything foreign from that time period here.

I guess I should have said Midwest not Wisconsin

Right! Imagine buying a motorcycle and having a complete engine failure within days, in August, in Wisconsin.

Yeah I was being sarcastic on the rarity thing. And just cuz it’s “rare”. Doesn’t mean it’s good. There’s a 85 Cavalier wagon for sale in norther Mn with a super rare sport handling package, and manual 5 speed. Actually rare especially in 2019, but who cares.

As for the bike I’d really like to get a bit of riding out of it before I tear it apart. Maybe ride it around town till it gets to cold then take it down to the basement and rebuild over the winter

For sure, the rare thing wasn’t a dig at you. It was jesting at the expense of the seller, and the whole “I know what I have here” crowd.

And definitely, ride it and enjoy it for awhile if you buy the bike. I’m guessing you live in a climate that isn’t really suited to two-wheel winters. In that case, sounds like a perfect winter project if you wouldn’t be riding it anyway for a couple of months.

I live in the conservative south and I see lots of 90’s and older  Honda’s, Toyota’s, and Nissan’s.
